Our family took a trip to Colorado/Cheyenne, WY to welcome Jordan home from what he calls Afghanland. While they were there, his team transported and dropped supplies to our troops on the ground and also delivered supplies to the Pakistani flood victims. You can check out what he did in more detail here. He's such a good writer... all his posts are worth reading. But here's my favorite post. It's really short and really funny!

The Email

My email address is mandytharelbaker@gmail.com. And with that information out of the way, I have several things to say about the email. I do hope you’ll read them.

1) I love the email. I love getting the email, reading the email, and replying to the email. I love checking the email. The email and I are in this thing for the long haul.

2) Unfortunately, I tend to get a little bit behind on the email. This is because I am apparently incapable of writing short, pithy responses in order to effectively manage my inbox. So I hang on to emails that I want to answer, but the new emails continue to arrive, and before I know it I have 433 pieces of email that I long to answer very personally and thoroughly.

3) However, by the time I have 433 messages waiting on an answer, I’m officially in an email hole.

4) Business emails are a bit different. I do try to reply to business emails very promptly. But when the email abyss develops, sometimes business emails are very inadvertently dropped in. If you haven't heard back from me in an appropriate amount of time, please consider your email inadvertently dropped, please know that I am truly embarrassed, accept my sincerest apologies and please forgive me. Also, please resend.

4) So I tell you all of this in the hopes that you’ll understand if I do not reply to you as quickly as I would hope. It grieves me to say that because, well, I’m Southern. And Southern girls are trained to always, always, always reciprocate correspondence. And to do so graciously. And timely. And to never put some sort of why-I-may-not-answer-in-a-timely manner disclosure on their blogs.

5) Clearly I have failed miserably.

6) However, if you’ve read all of this and still want to email me, you can find me at the aforementioned email address.

7) Because I even read those emails from the made-up people in foreign countries who want me to hold THE MILLIONS OF THE DOLLARS for them in my bank account, and if I’ll just email them my Social Security number and savings account number, they’ll transfer THE MILLIONS OF THE DOLLARS right away!

8) And they will pay me A PERCENTAGE OF THE MONIES for my trouble!

9) The made-up people are obviously very generous.

10) And seriously: thanks for being so understanding, everybody. You’re the best internets in the whole wide world.

PLACEMATS!!!

A tradition in our family is when our children ask to leave the table, they must first recite their bible verse before they can be excused. I made these placemats with their pictures and verses and they are such a hit, I'm offering them at the Spring Boutique Show! They are double sided, cleanable, durable and sure to create smiles galore at every family meal! ($15 each).

I have the sweetest friend. Her name is Holley. She is an amazing writer. And encourager. I've linked to her a lot on my family blog. And you can read her amazing-ness for yourself here.

Holley was my table mentor in a bible study last year where we were encouraged to develop a life mission statement. Valuing beauty in all things that I do, I created myself a little bookmark reminding me daily to stick to my mission. Best Bets for Silhouettes

Just send me a clear side profile photograph of your child(ren) (or other family members, pets, etc.) and I will create custom silhouette illustrations for you. For the best silhouette possible, the picture should be taken at close range with the subject standing or sitting perfectly sideways to the camera...not from below or above the child so that the features aren't skewed--preferably with a solid background, such as a blank wall. (For even better results, hold a piece of lime green poster board behind the subject). Make sure each photo captures all of the subject's hair! In addition, the photo you provide should be HIGH RESOLUTION (1000K or higher when sending by email), very clear and without blur or distortion. It helps if the shirt collar does not cover a lot of the neck or cover the cheek in any way (consider having your child wear a t-shirt). The shape of the neck/throat and jawline really help identify who the person is. For girls, it helps to put the hair up into a ponytail or bun, if possible, to add character to the image. If your camera flash is creating shadows around the head, consider having the subject step a few feet away from the wall or poster board, or turn off your flash. Please send me an email with the photos you have before you make a purchase and I will let you know if they will work as silhouettes. *I can also do full body silhouettes, pet silhouettes, object silhouettes, etc.

Three Printing/Pricing Options

Option 1--Design only
* Custom Design...$35.
* After completing your custom design, we will email you a .jpeg image of your card. You can use that .jpeg image to send to the printer of your choice.
Option 2--Design and Premium Quality Printing. We will custom design your announcement and print them on high quality card stock with your choice of a linen or pearl finigh. Envelopes are included. Prices below are listed per card. (Should you need less than 50 cards, I charge $2 per card plus a $30 design fee).

Stationary

25 cards for $40 which includes a high res digital file of the design along with the printing rights so that you can have more stationary printed as you need it...on stationary, notecards, personalized stickers, etc. Stationary is priced per design. I would love to help you bring your designs to life.

Email your pictures and ideas to mandytharelbaker@gmail.com. We will email you back and clarify any questions and discuss any ideas you may have for your custom design. You will let us know what size you would like your finished photo card to be (4x6, 5x7, 5x5, postcard...) and we will begin the design process. You pay only after you approve the final design.

If desired, we can clean up photos, adjust for lighting and coloration, transfer photos to black and white, or sepia and even add a touch of color to the black and white or sepia prints.
A proof will be emailed back to you as soon as possible.
You let us know any changes you want to be made. Attention to detail is a top priority. We will work with you until you are completely satisfied.
At this point, there are three options as to how you would like to receive your custom cards. We can email you a jpeg image that you can send to the printer of your choice. We can have the cards printed and sent directly to you or we can have your cards printed and mailed directly to your recipients. Please see the pricing link for more detailed pricing information.

Time to hear a proud sister gush!

You may or may not know my AMAZING little brother, Jordan. He, along with my husband, father and sons, is truly one of my favorite men on earth. (Read more about "Umple Jobo" here). Right now, Jordan is overseas, serving our country, in what we affectionately refer to as Iraqistan. There are definitely more technical terms to be used, but he is a member of a five man crew, co-piloting a C-130 in our country's massive effort to keep my children safe.

I wish there were more ways that we could adequately thank the men and women who are sacrificing days upon days without their loved ones... Or to thank the moms and dads who are voluntarily running a single parent household for months at a time... Or to tell a child, "Your parents truly are our heroes. I'm proud of you for being strong while they are away."

I know I take it for granted. And for that I am truly sorry.

So let's join together and offer a small bit of thanks to those families! I'm going to start with those men on Jordan's flight team and will keep going until I run out of time. I've offered those families free design services on their Christmas Cards. And I'm offering my friends and customers the opportunity to help purchase cards for these military families...just as a way to say "Thank you for giving up your Christmas with your Daddy. We appreciate your sacrifice."
